Chinoiserie, a decorative fantasy inspired by the 18th century

More than a faithful representation of China, chinoiserie is an art of imagination. Highly influential in European decorative arts during the 17th and 18th centuries, it created a dreamlike vision of the Orient through enchanting gardens, delicate architecture, exotic birds, flowers and figures moving through timeless landscapes.

Peonies, colourful birds, ceramics, abundant vegetation and Oriental-inspired architecture form a wonderfully rich decorative vocabulary. Each element contributes to a poetic landscape conceived as an invitation to travel.

Inspired by travel and the decorative arts, Anne Boghossian, founder and artistic director of ANANBÔ, freely revisits this universe. She creates chinoiserie wallpapers combining imagined landscapes, extraordinary gardens and references to the great European decorative schemes of the 18th century.

A garden of peonies, birds perched among the branches, blue ceramics and delicate architecture emerging through luxuriant foliage… Chinoiserie panoramic wallpaper transforms the wall into an imaginary landscape, with subtle tones and a deeply poetic atmosphere.

Anne also imagines delicate scenes that seem to tell stories from another time: a figure beneath a parasol, a walk through a lush garden or architecture emerging between the leaves. Some compositions evoke the spirit of 18th-century European chinoiserie and, in particular, the fantastical landscapes of painter and ornamental designer Jean-Baptiste Pillement.

Chinoiserie enters the interior like a timeless interlude. Between an imagined Orient, idealised nature and the heritage of the decorative arts, it creates an elegant world in which fantasy and poetry take centre stage.

All ANANBÔ chinoiserie panoramic wallpapers originate from original hand-painted artworks. The works are then carefully digitised and prepared for printing on non-woven paper with a particularly matt finish, preserving the depth and sensitivity of the original design.

Each design is printed to order near Bordeaux. The usual production time for non-woven wallpaper is 8 to 10 working days from receipt of payment.
